If big bass is your passion, then
Angler's Inn on Lake El Salto is the place to be. This 23,000
acre and 18 mile impoundment is loaded with Florida strain bass. El Salto is located 50 miles from the beach resort city of
Mazatlan. Mazatlan is laid back with beautiful beaches,
excellent restaurants, and entertaining night life. Angler
Expeditions can recommend a list of great spots. I always spend
a couple of days there. It is one of my favorite places to hang
out when I am not casting. They also have some of the best
offshore fishing in the pacific. It is the best of both
worlds!
What makes Mexican bass so popular
among angling enthusiasts is the power of the Florida strain bass. The vision of catching my first Mexican bass is something I will
never forget. I hooked a three pounder and thought I had an
eight pounder on, and the
thought came to my mind, what will a 10 pounder be like. The lake El Salto
bass grows at an
astounding rate of two pounds a year. One of the
main reasons for their rapid growth rate is of course the forage,
consisting of Shad, Crayfish, and there favorite Tilapia.
Angler's Inn is a first
class operation and second to none in comfort and amenities. El
Salto is world renowned among serious anglers with over 85% of
fishermen landing their personal best. El Salto is easy to
fish, because it is shallower than a lot of the other higher
altitude lakes in Mexico, which makes it a great place for
groups and family trips. Angler's Inn welcomes anglers of any
age, or skill level.
An assortment of lures work at El
Salto. The lake record is 18.5 lbs. and it is not uncommon to
catch two or three a day in the double digit class. The average
fisherman can expect to catch 25 to 65 bass a day depending on
their experience. Many hardcore bass fishermen and fishing
magazines rate El Salto the number one Trophy bass lake in the
world. El Salto contains tons of vegetation (Hyacinth) and
flooded timber. El Salto has hundreds of
miles of shoreline and thousands of bays to easily target these
monsters. El Salto is a rare gem!
