Gangler's Seal River Lodge
Northern Manitoba Fly-In Fishing

World class northern pike, lake trout, walleye, and artic grayling is what Gangler's North Seal River Lodge is all about.  With a combination of awesome angling, outstanding cuisine, and log cabin style lodging, North Seal River Lodge is just what the stress doctor ordered.

Established in 1985, Gangler's has long been recognized in the industry as the benchmark for extraordinary fishing destinations.  North Seal River Lodge is the Gangler's third lodge in the past 18 years and they understand what it takes to run a five-star operation.  The North Seal River system was basically untapped when Wayne Gangler and his sons decided it was time to pack up and start a new venture.  Since that day, they have had no regrets. The North Seal River area is so vast with 7200 sq, miles.  It is a unique area where 12 river systems merge to form over 1000 lakes with most never seeing a boat, not to mention a lure.  Gangler's native guides understand how to navigate the infinite amount of bays and hard to reach areas giving you a better chance at a fish of a lifetime.

Whether your passion is to enjoy the comforts of North Seal River Lodge, Maria Lake Mini Lodge, or the other three outpost camps, you can rest assure your fishing experience will be one to cherish for years to come. Gangler's welcomes all types of fishermen at any age, or level.  North Seal River Lodge is a perfect place for both family and corporate groups.  Angler Expeditions understands that quality fishing trips are not cheap, but as the saying goes, "you get what you pay for."  Angler Expeditions represents only a select few elite destinations to represent and Gangler's gets our endorsement.  If you are going to spend time on the water, make it quality time.

Have you ever heard the saying, "90% of the fish are in 10% of the water."  Well, there is some truth to that when you're talking about early season pike in northern Canada.  This period known as ice-out can be, "Katie by the door!" With such extreme cold, and ice with depths of double digits, it takes a long time to thaw.  A lot of the larger glacier lakes will still have ice on them into mid June.   Pike spawn in early and mid spring, then move into the warmest water they can find, which are the shallow bays. There they go on a feeding frenzy.

Many large pike can be had in as little as two feet of water. The action can be so good, it can bring tears of joy to the toughest dude.  Just about anything with a hook will work. Pike are active feeders for most of the short season, so they can store enough fat cells to sustain themselves through the colder months.  Sight fishing is one of the best techniques to catch these fresh water gators.  As summer approaches, the vegetation starts to mature and water temperatures start to level out and pike start to fan out.  That is when you need to become more versatile in your fishing methods.  You can still find large numbers of pike in shallow grassy areas, but there are other places that can hold bigger, more active fish. Cabbage is what to look for in both shallow and deep waters.

Being a musky angler, sight fishing is not something commonly practiced.  I am not knocking it and would not dare abandon it, but you cannot say it doesn't feel better to hang a trophy you did not expect, than to dangle a slug-go in front of her nose.  Call me a purist, but I like a more of a level playing field, it seems more of a sport to me.  Note:  Look for more pike strategies on our web sight next month. (see tips and tackle page).

Summary:
Gangler's, well the name says it all.  North Seal River Lodge boosts one of the finest facilities in all of Canada with all the comforts you would expect from a five-star rated resort.  The boats are spotless and have plenty of power to quickly get you to the prime spots.  With their thousands of lakes, you will be hard pressed to spot another angler.  We found the cuisine and shore lunches to be second to none.  Gangler's guides are polite, helpful, and have good understanding on how to navigate such a complex watershed.  Though the North Seal River system is an awesome Pike fishery, it has some of the best Lake Trout and Walleye fishing in all of Canada, and with all its tributaries it is second to none when it comes to its Artic Grayling.  North Seal River is one of the finest fisheries in all the world and most scenic.
