Owner / Operators, Ricardo and Monique Burrows have created an attractive, well situated new lodge on the southwest side of Abaco, that not only offers some of the best bonefishing in the Bahamas, but is also one the easiest to get to. There are several daily flights from four Florida cities to Marsh Harbour, Abaco, where a lodge representative meets you and drives you 50 minutes to the lodge.
Sitting directly on a beach overlooking a flat, the air conditioned, 10 -bedroom lodge was built in 1999 and opened for business the winter of 2000. Guests can access a small bonefish flat right in front of the lodge.

Beyond the flat is a creek and beyond the creek is another very large, productive bonefish flat, known as Town Flat. Each double room has air conditioning, ceiling fans, private bathroom and TV.

The lodge can accommodate couples and / or groups of men or women. The lodge employs a full time chef who has already developed a reputation for serving excellent meals.

Head guide and lodge owner, Ricardo Burrows, has lived and fished the waters around Sandy Point for over twenty some years.  Along with Ricardo the lodge employs 8-10 experienced Sandy Point guides. The flats here are made up of mostly white sand, with some turtle grass, and 75% or more of the flats are wadable. Bonefish here average 3-5 lbs. up to 14 pounds. This is also one of the best places in the Bahamas to target permit. Mutton snapper, jacks and barracuda are also prevalent. Off the west coast of Abaco lie the islands of Gorda Cay and Mores Island. These areas are renowned for holding large bonefish and permit on beautiful white sandy flats.

A trip to Gorda Cay takes about 30 minutes and Mores Island is about 50 minutes away. Some of the guides use boats larger than typical bonefish skiffs to allow them to make the trip to the outer cays when the weather is calm.

Coffee will be available in the dinning room at 6:00 AM. Breakfast begins at 7:00 AM. The fishing day normally runs from 8:00AM – 4:00PM. Under proper weather conditions, the guides may be able to make the crossing to Mores Island or Gorda Cay. Lunch is usually packed in a cooler and taken aboard the boat.

After a hard days fishing, you will return to the lodge to relax in your room or perhaps sit and enjoy the expansive 50 ft. deck over looking the water. Dinner, consisting of Bahamian dishes such as conch chowder, lobster, grouper, chicken and vegetable dishes is served between 6:30 – 7:00PM.

.........
Rickmon Bonefish Lodge does not sell or rent tackle, lures or flies. Some of the guides carry back-up tackle should you break a rod. It is imperative that each angler bring his own tackle, flies and lures. We recommend that you bring tackle suitable for bonefish, permit, mutton snapper, barracuda and shark.

To assist in your selection, view Angler Adventures “Flats Fishing the Bahamas & Caribbean – What to Bring” List web site. There may also be opportunities to cast to tarpon, however, tarpon are not all that common.

Most of the flats around Sandy Point are wadeable, so it's a good idea to wear wading boots or wading sneakers everyday. In addition, you may need to wade a short distance to get from the lodge to the boat each day.
