Trophy Bass Lodge
Lake Huites, Mexico

How would you like to catch 100 bass a day.  Sounds crazy doesn't it, but not uncommon on Lake Huites.  This giant body of water boosts 30,000 acres of water along with over 100 miles of timber packed shoreline.  Huites is the most scenic reservoir in all of Mexico, buried in the beautiful Sierra Madre mountains.  This lake will take your  breath away with its majestic bluffs and colorful bird life.  During a day on the lake, you will often see birds of prey snatch up fish right before your eyes.

What makes Mexican bass so popular among angling enthusiasts is the power of the Florida strain bass.  The vision of catching my first Mexican bass is something I will never forget.  I hooked a three pounder and thought I had an eight pounder on, and the thought came to my mind, what will a ten pounder be like.  Huites was stocked with these bass over 20 years ago and can grow at an astounding rate of two pounds a year, you do the math.  One of the main reasons for their rapid growth rate is of course the forage, consisting of Shad, Crayfish, and there favorite Tilapia.

Huites can now put itself into the elite class of Mexican lakes for trophy bass.  Huites is not a lake with much vegetation, so all the forage congregates in the timber close to shore, which makes for easy pick-ens.  Even though 100 fish days are not uncommon, you can expect to hook anywhere from 25 to 65 fish a day throughout the season depending on your skill level.  The slot size is what makes Huites so popular among hardcore bass anglers with many fish in the 4 to 6 pound range and plenty in the 6 to 8 pound range and a real good chance at one in double digits.  However, I have caught many big fish at all different times of the seasons (Dec-May).   The later in the season the better your chances.  Huites bass spawn in the earlier months then go on a feeding frenzy.  The top water action can be incredible in the later months.

Huites is a reservoir with constant changing water levels, which can effect the fishing.  Huites is the largest, deepest, and highest reservoir in the region and is a prime water source for the towns and villages below to irrigate crops.  Huites is the main water reserve for the smaller lakes below, so if they need water their going to take it from the mother lake,"Huites".  The reservoirs were built for the people of the region, not as a sportsman playground.  At Anglers Expeditions, we keep close taps on this.  If the water drops fast the fish spook and head to deep water.  This seldom happens, but has happened to me and I promise I will take every precaution so it doesn't happen to any of Angler Expedition clients.  We are constantly monitoring water levels on all the lakes and rivers we have representing resorts on.  The same holds true for rising water. Radical changes in water levels are one of the most important elements in fishing.  If we feel the levels have dropped, or risen to fast, we will contact you, so you can decide whether to rebook or go. Before I started Angler Expeditions, this kind of service was unheard of and do not know of any other booking company who does this.

Huites is not alone, almost all the big Mexican lakes are reservoirs and are subject to fluctuations in water levels, come to think of it, so are all the reservoirs on the planet, that is why they are called reservoirs; however, with all their ups and downs (no pun intended), I will take these lakes over any in the world for both numbers and size.  I have fished reservoirs in Mexico over 25 times and when it's hot, it's smoking and when it's cold, it's warm.  You are always going to catch a lot of fish no matter when you go, but there are times when it's just awesome, you never know "that's fishing".  I have tried all kinds of different approaches from different months to all the moon phases, you just have to go and hope the fishing gods are on your side.  It doesn't matter how much time you have on the water.  One thing about Huites, there is very light fishing pressure, because there are only three lodges on the lake.  Plus, the lake is so massive with thousands of bays and points.  Huites has the finest habitat for bass I have ever seen and if there is a better one, I would like nothing more than to know where!

Trophy Bass Lodge Lake Huites MexicoTrophy Bass Lodge is owned and operated by American Bass Fishermen, making this wonderful new Lodge almost unique in all of Mexico!  We think this fresh new approach has produced a lodge where fishermen and their friends and family feel right at home.

Once you arrive at the lodge, the Trophy Bass staff will greet you with a Margarita, cold beer, or your favorite soft drink, then help you get your gear stored in your spacious, air-conditioned room.   While you get unpacked and settled in, the friendly staff will be serving some "real" Mexican appetizers and your favorite beverage.  In the meantime, the chef, whom we believe is among the very best in Mexico, will be preparing a great dinner for everyone.

Summary
Huites has a lot of options for catching bass.  I cannot decide if I love to crank, or finesse fish, and let's not forget the awesome top water action.  Whatever you decide, you can certainly expect a lot of action.  On a trip five or six years ago, I fished top water all day with crystal blue sky's.  It was one of the best days on the water in my life.  Trophy Bass lodge has just finished the last phase of remodeling and is one of the finest lodges I have stayed at in Mexico.  I also found the food to be outstanding.  Trophy Bass Lodge has all clean fiberglass boats with plenty of comfort and space to fish.  They also pack plenty of horse power to get you from one prime spot to another fast.  Huites guides are all native to the region with most growing up in the village and have commercial fished the lake for Tilapia most of their life, so they know how to fish and navigate this massive body of bass heaven.

Itinerary:
After you arrive in Los Mochies and clear customs (don't forget to bring your passport or birth certificate and valid drivers license) you will be greeted by a staff member from the lodge.  You will then transport to the lodge about a 2 1/2 hour drive through the heartland of Mexico.  You will be served a full service meal and have plenty of time to relax and rig up for an awesome day on an incredible lake.  The next morning you will be served a complete breakfast with fresh squeezed orange juice and coffee.  You can decide whether to take a shore lunch, or skip it and the chef will pack you an excellent lunch.
