Spin Fishing

offers great opportunities for spin fishing. We recommend
that even die-hard fly fishermen consider bringing spin
tackle to use when fly fishing conditions are difficult.
BONEFISH
Rod:
7 - 8 ft.
Reel:
Spinning
reel with the capacity for at least 150 yards of 10 lb.
line
Bonefish Lures:
Live bait on 1/16-1/8 oz.
jig heads works best for bones
PERMIT
Rod:
7 - 8 ft.
Reel: Spinning
reel with capacity for 200 yds. of 12-15 lb. line
Permit Lures:
Live bait on 1/8-1/4 oz. jig heads is very effective. Also
some larger crab patterns like the McCrab work well.
TARPON
Rod:
6 - 7ft.
Reel: Spinning
reel with capacity for 200 yards of 15-20 lb. line.
Leader: 12"-18" shock leader of 80 or 100 lb. mono
Tarpon Lures:
Mirrolures (20MR, 52M, 52MR, 65M, 77M) and Rapallas
(CD11Mag - CD18Mag).
BARRACUDA
Rod:
7 - 8ft.
Reel: Spinning
reel or an open face reel with 200 yds. of 20 lb. line
Leader: You
will need to use 20-30 lb. wire leader (9-12 inches).
Lures: Bright
colored tube lures are the best baits for barracuda.
MANGROVE
CASTING
Rod:
7 - 8ft.
Reel:
Spinning
reel with capacity for 200 yards of 10-15 lb. line
Leader: You
will need a 12"-18" wire leader or a 80-100 lb. mono shock
leader.
Reef & Mangrove Lures:
Poppers , Mirrolures and
Rapallas are the best baits.
